The OpenMedia.ca SFU Club is a non-profit, student run campus group dedicated to promoting an open and democratic communication system in Canada. Our vision is linked with OpenMedia.ca, a national, non-partisan, non-profit organization working to advance and support and open and innovative media communications system in Canada.
Our primary goal is to increase student and public awareness and informed participation in Canadian media, cultural, information, and telecommunication policy formation.
We believe that an open media system is essential to our democracy, and in order to do so we need an open and innovative communications system with increased transparency of media with broader and more representative public participation.
The SFU OpenMedia.ca works on variety of initiatives such as holding campus events, educational workshops, high school and university presentations about national media issues and publishing a monthly newsletter. The club provides a great number of volunteering opportunities for those who are interested or want to learn about media issues in Canada.
